Don’t Miss ! – The Grand Palace while you are with us at Centre point Silom

Centre Point Hospitality
Every visitor to Bangkok should see the magnificent buildings within the Grand Palace compound to get a feeling of the grandeur architectural style.Since the founding of Bangkok as the Nations capital by King Rama I, The Grand Palace has been the major architectural symbol of The Thai Royal Family. In the present time, The Royal Family resides at Chitralada Palace while The Grand Palace is used for ceremonial purposes.
The main buildings within the Grand Palace compound were built for King Rama V, who was the first Thai King to travel to Europe.Phra Thinang Chakri Maha Prasat, built in 1877 by King Rama V as his Royal Residence, is the most highly recognized architectural landmark of the Nation. The central Throne Hall, which was formerly used for the reception of foreign envoys, is flanked by reception areas decorated with galleries of portraiture. The central room on the second floor is used as a shrine for the reliquary ashes of Kings Rama IV, Rama V, Rama VI, Rama VII and Rama VIII.Borom Phiman Mansion was also constructed during the reign of King Rama V. When his son, King Rama VI ascended to the throne, he had it improved for use as his residence.

The three succeeding Kings also resided here at one time or another. The Siwalai Gardens, where the office of The Royal Household Bureau is located, were used for receptions as well as a recreation area for the royal women and children.Maha Monthien Prasat houses The Audience Hall of Amarin Winitchai where ceremonies of the Court usually take place in front of the throne surmounted by its canopy of nine tiers of white cloth.

How to go there:
The most enjoyable route is to take the BTS Skytrain to Taksin Station. From here take a Chao Phraya River Express boat to Tha Chang Wang Luang Pier. It is a short walk from the pier to the entrance to The Grand Palace public entrance.

Quoted “You can’t go wrong with this Hotel & Serviced Apartments” by one of our guests from London

Centre Point Sukhumvit
We just returned from 3 weeks in Bangkok and stayed at Centrepoint on Soi 10 Sukhumvit. We have stayed here previously and it continues to live up to expectations, well priced, conveniently situated and high standard accommodation with friendly staff who are keen to help at all times. There are other Centrepoint locations but we chose this one as being most convenient since it sits between 2 BTS stations and is secluded, making for a good nights sleep. Given the traffic in Bangkok, we wouldn’t be happy to be in a more centralised or main road sited hotel, the city never sleeps.

We had a room in the garden wing, with a nice outlook over gardens with all amenities such as a kitchinette, fridge, washing machine and free WiFi. Downstairs and in the main building there is a library, games rooms, swimming pool, sauna, mini mart, beauty salon, business centre, and restaurant. There is a substantial buffet breakfast with plenty of choice. The a la carte menu for lunch/evening meals is predominantly asian food but there are some western options if you don’t want to chance the more spicy dishes! Its all cooked freshly to your choice and is very tasty.

They have a free tuktuk that takes you up and down to the main road, very handy if you come home with lots of shopping! It stops right next to some lovely gardens, nice to sit and relax in the shade. If you go left onto Sukhumvit you come to Nana BTS station. Turn right and you are handily placed for Asok BTS station, Times Square shopping complex, the new Terminal 21 shopping centre and various supermarkets, department stores etc. (If you go down the steps to the bottom floor of Times Square you will find Lorenzo tailors. Definately to be recommended, he does a perfect job and is very fairly priced. Take an example of clothing and the material and he’ll replicate the garment to the last little detail. If you go further along past Times Square you eventually come to a material shop on the corner, a great place for lovely fabrics!)

Overall I’d recommend this Centrepoint as suitable for anyone who wants a more than decent place to stay at a reasonable price. There are certainly cheaper places but they tend to be in rather seedy or noisy areas and are a lot less clean and comfortable. I’m sure you wouldn’t be disappointed by the service and standards here. Its handy for all the shops, bars, clubs, restaurants, BTS access and the metro station. What more could you want?

Room Tip: All the rooms are good, in the main building you get the option of a higher floor/lake view or in the garden wing you are surrounded by nice trees and garden area.

Helping a grateful guest to connect with the world

Centre Point Petchburi
When our guest moved into Apartment 9D@ Centre Point Petchburi, he asked for help to install his computer and I was happy to do that. When I got his computer working, he wanted to connect o the internet through the Wi-Fi in our building.

I advised him that all he needed was a USB adaptor to connect. I told him that the adaptor was available from Pantip Plaza which was nearby. He seemed at a loss and said he wasn’t sure where to go or what to buy. So I said, “Don’t worry, I’ll get it for you”. I wanted to help because I understand that it isn’t easy to shop for something you know little about. His grateful thanks were a great reward for such a little gesture.
